Bowflex Blaze Review 2018- Pro’s & Con’s

What is the Bowflex Blaze?

One of the reasons that most people used to opt to go to the gym over owning home gyms is so that they could get multiple workouts from different machines. Initially, most home fitness machines could accommodate only one or two types of workouts. You could barely get an equipment that allowed you to exercises both your upper and lower body parts. This, therefore, meant that getting the ideal home gym that accommodates every person’s fitness objectives was almost impossible.

What if I told you there is an equipment that could offer you a wide variety of exercises right from the comfort of your home? An equipment that delivers the same workouts as a stationary bike, free weights, elliptical and treadmill. Stop for a moment and think about how useful getting such workouts from a single equipment would be. The amount of space you would spare and above all, the expenses that you will no longer have to undergo. You and your family members won’t need expensive gym memberships and neither will you have to travel to get the workouts you need. This is what the Bowflex Blaze equipment is designed to do.

The machine has endless workout exercises that’ll prove to be useful to any beginner or fitness professional. It’s the kind of machine that’ll open doors to new fitness levels you had never thought possible. This is just but one of the reasons why we loved this machine, and we are going to give you a highlight of some of its best features that make it a great buy.

Bowflex Blaze Features

  • Resistance Rods

Instead of the common iron weight plates found in most traditional gyms, the Bowflex Blaze uses the resistance rods technology. These rods are made of flexible composite poles that are designed to bend when being used to simulate traditional weights. You will, therefore, find that these poles come in different thicknesses and this difference in weight is then directly reflected on how much weight you are lifting. The system is hence not just useful in providing the needed weight, but it does so in a lightweight manner. The composite material making these poles is similar to the ones that make carbon fiber which speaks volumes about its strength and durability.

Okay, the resistance rods work but what exactly sets them apart? How are they any different from traditional weights that used to deliver the same weight loss and muscle building results? A lot of people share these concerns, and we also used to wonder whether indeed this system was bringing anything new. In our research, we realized that resistance rods do more than just giving you the results you need. In a certain reported published by the popular fitness expert Dr. Jim Stoppani, he explained that resistance rods would go as far as providing functional strength, enhanced change in muscle emphasis when exercising, better recovery and protection from injuries and enhanced muscle strength development.

Another positive that really stood out for us is how incredible the transmission of resistance is in this system. In traditional free weights, the resistance started right from the level you chose. This is somewhat problematic because kick-starting your muscles from high resistance without any warm-up can even cause injuries. Bowflex Rods have eliminated this problem thanks to the resistance rods. This system starts slowly and then gradually builds up all the way to the selected resistance. This protects your muscles, works them a lot harder and then helps to prevent any cheating due to momentum.

It was also inevitable to notice how easy it is to use this system. It comes with a standard resistance of 210lbs which are broken down into various rods of 50lb, 30lb, 10lb and 5lb pieces. You can attach any combination of these rods in either side and then secure them in place with the fitted hook. 210lbs sounds like a good range for beginners and advanced weightlifters, but if you feel like you need more, there is an option to upgrade it up to 410lb and 310lb.

Exercises options

The exercises options might just be the most attractive thing about this machine. With the Bowflex Blaze, you can perform over 60 strength-training exercises, and that’s not even the best part! What makes these exercises even more useful is that they are designed to work out every muscle inside you! With the Bowflex machine, there are no more cases of those weird appearances where your upper body parts seem to be more built up than the lower part. These exercises will ensure that you get an even result. The fact that they work on all groups of muscles also means that different people can use the equipment. If your fitness goals differ from your spouse’s, then both of you will be able to work out independently and achieve your goals using this machine.

It gets even better; Bowflex Blaze has an inbuilt rowing machine that will give you useful cardio exercises. If you have any advanced knowledge of fitness, then you know just how useful rowing machines are. In fact, experts explain that rowing machines deliver the best cardio results than cycling, running or other similar workouts. Its inclusion here is honestly remarkable. The cardio exercises will take your fitness a notch.

Frame

Bowflex Blaze features a sturdy frame construction made of steel tubing. This frame is then covered with an enamel coating which is anti-corrosive, but you’re still advised not to use it outdoors. The frame makes the entire machine rather stable supporting up to 300lbs of user weight. At the bottom of the frame are various contact points for the floor that are all capped with rubber stabilizers. These are useful in anchoring the machine on the floor and also helps to protect your floor from scratches. The machine will function brilliantly without wobbling on any surface, but if your floor is uneven, then you may consider putting a rubberised mat below the machine.

The frame can be folded reducing the machine’s overall size by up to 30 inches. You will also find two transport wheels at the rear base. These two features make it possible to move the machine from one point to another easily.

Bench

Blaze is fitted with an adjustable bench that allows users of various heights to comfortably use it and also makes it possible to perform different exercises from different angles. The backrest can also be changed from a horizontal position to 45°. You can also remove the backrest in case you feel like its standing on your way.

The seat features a 2inch foam cushioning for maximum comfort, and the synthetic leather finishing doesn’t just boost the aesthetics but also makes them quite durable. This seat is designed with a smooth gliding system similar to the one found in rowing machines. The seat can glide throughout the bench allowing you to perform exercises such as leg presses and aerobic rowing. You can also lock this seat in different positions depending on what you think will be comfortable for you to perform the specific exercise you want. The rollers in this seat are fixed with heavy duty and sealed ball bearings, and that’s why they are smooth and also very long lasting.

Assembly and maintenance

Setting up this machine is straightforward, but it is likely to take a bit more time because there’s quite a lot of parts to assemble. It’s perfectly doable by one person, but if you can get extra pair hands, you’ll be able to finish it a lot faster. All you need to assemble it is two combination wrenches, Philips screwdriver and two Allen wrenches (included).

Bowflex Blaze has a sturdy build, and that’s why you’ll never spend much on maintenance. The only maintaining you’ll need to perform is routine re-tightening of bolts, machine check, and cleaning.
