9 Health Benefits of Carbon C60 Explained

What is Carbon C60?

Carbon-60, fullerene-60, or C60 as it is commonly called, is a relatively new discovery, but it may just be the most interesting scientific discovery in the last few decades. The official name of this compound is Buckminsterfullerene, and just like diamond and graphite, it was discovered in 1985.

C60 essentially contains 60 carbon atoms which explain why its name is C60. It has a unique carbon arrangement that looks like a “carbon cage”, and similar to a soccer ball. This unique structure is what gives Carbon-60 all its amazing and exciting properties. It is radiation-resistant, has high resistance to chemical corrosion, and won’t easily break under pressure. It also has abilities to remove superoxide and also combines well with other compounds. The effects of C60 have been scientifically proven and its mental and physical health benefits have been backed up by several research studies.

9 Health Benefits of Carbon 60

  • C60 Increases Longevity

One of the most famous researches carried out with the Carbon-60 is the Paris or Baati study. The results of the research revealed that C60 can protect nerve cells and prevent them from dying by dehydration or amyloid-beta. In the experiment, C60 allowed rats to live longer by increasing their lifespan by 90%. This is partly due to the fact that this compound has a high affinity for cellular membranes as well as mitochondrial membranes. This affinity helps protect those membranes which are the reason why the lifespan of cells is increased.

  • Protection against Free Radicals

Free radicals are known for their properties to react with other molecules in the body and cause unwanted and damaging results. Some of them are, oxidative stress or protein, cells, and DNA damage, Alzheimer’s disease, aging, and cancer. Free radicals are contained in alcohol, pesticides, junk food, tobacco, and air pollutants. C60 was found to contain antioxidants several hundred times more than other antioxidants. This gives it the ability to be able to deal with free radicals and protect the body from their effects. Once free radicals bound to C60, they are completely neutralized and have no interaction with C60 or any other electrons in the process.

  • Prevention or Reduction of Inflammation

Since C60 was found to be a free radical neutralizer, it only makes sense that it also possesses properties that can reduce inflammation. During the Baati study, it was discovered that Carbon-60 has TNF alpha and IL-1. Water-soluble C60 was able to reduce inflammations in the rats, prevent osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, and also improve their immune system. This also makes it a good treatment for cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, and respiratory problems.

  • Prevents Apoptosis in the Nervous System

This is the death that occurs naturally in cells. It is a fact that during the development of the nervous system, neurons are created and also destroyed. This is normal and essential for brain development. However, in the case of neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s disease, a lot of neutrons are destroyed causing the decline in cognitive function as well as memory loss and several other problems.

In a recent study, it was concluded that C60 exhibits no traces of toxicity to the nervous system, making it a potential treatment for neurodegenerative diseases. Another study also backed this up by revealing that C60 supports the development of new neurons and also prevent neurodegeneration.

  • Fights Bacteria and Viruses

Carbon-60 has properties that help to fight against bacteria and viruses. A research even revealed that C60 has the potential to inhibit HIV and stop the onset of AIDS. Studies have also shown that this miracle compound, Buckminsterfullerene can help to prevent the spread of hepatitis C, Vesicular Stomatitis Virus, and cytomegalovirus. Also, C60 was found to be a very effective inhibitor of skin-causing bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, Malassezia furfur, and Propionibacterium acnes.

  • Fights Obesity

Though there isn’t much research to back this up yet, some have been able to discover a property that can allow you to lose some weight or at least prevent you from gaining more than you have right now. The Carbon-60 in Squalene or shark oil as it is commonly known contains strong antioxidant properties that can stop fat cells from increasing in number and size. C60 also has the ability to prevent our cells from growing into fat cells.

  • Inhibition of Tumor Growth

When cells die, sometimes they remain and form what is known as a tumor. One of the studies investing C60 revealed that the compound in water-soluble form has the ability to stop breast cancer cells and certain hematopoietic stem cells from communicating. It is the communication between these cells that allow them to spread (metastasize) to other places in the body. In a study carried out with rats that were induced with 1, 2-dimethylhydrazine-induced colon cancer, application of C60 fullerenes led to the reduction in colonic tumor lesions area by 27% and tumor number by 50%. Of course, research is still ongoing in this area but this has been a remarkable discovery.

  • Reversal of Skin Disorders

Several positive experiments have been carried out on Carbon-60 and its impressive skincare benefits. In the rat, dermatitis model, it was found that inflammation was reduced after application of fullerene-60, and a healthier skin barrier function was recorded. Thus, C60 helped in combating two of the major causes of dermatitis – inflammation and impaired barrier function. It can also be effective in the treatment of acne as a topical application to skin resulted in the decrease in oils, pimples and skin lesions.

When tested for hair loss treatment, C60 turned out effective again. Experimentation with bald rats resulted in enhanced rapid hair growth in the animals.

  • C60 Prevents Infertility and Boosts Sexual Function

One of the common causes of male infertility and erectile dysfunction is diabetes. In a research carried out with diabetes-induced rats, it was found that their fertility and sexual function were improved after being injected with C60. The diabetic male rats showed increased levels of testosterone as well. The animals also recovered completely from complications such as damage from free radicals and swellings.
