What is Orlistol?
Losing weight through a balanced diet and exercising isn’t as easy it may sound. I mean, how are you expected to suddenly stop eating all the sweet sugary foods you are used to? This requires massive willpower and determination and even then, cases of cheat days may still occur. One cheat day will then lead to another, and before you know it, you find yourself deep into the junk foods you were warned about. So, how do you avoid all this? This is where weight loss supplements come in. These are formulated to not only expedite your weight loss program but to significantly cut your desires for the sweet foods that are not good for you. Orlistol is marketed as one of such diet supplements. Just how well does it get the job done? Let’s find out.
Orlistol is a dietary supplement manufactured by the famous supplements making giant Nutratech. Nutratech explains that this supplement is scientifically formulated to boost weight loss through preventing the absorption of carbohydrates and fats. How will this promote weight loss? Well, when your body is not absorbing all the fat you are eating it means that none of it will be stored in the body but instead, they will be excreted. This, therefore, means that while you may be eating vast amounts of fat and carbohydrates very few of it will be retained in the body.
Additionally, the supplement claims to enhance weight loss through the suppression of appetite and by boosting metabolism. If Orlistol can adequately address appetite issues, then as a user you can expect fewer temptations of eating all the unhealthy but sweet foods. This will eliminate the cheat days thus helping your body to concentrate on losing fat without adding some more. Why is improved metabolism essential for weight loss? A person can benefit from better metabolism in a variety of ways. First, all the adipose is likely to broken down meaning that less of it will be left around your tummy and other areas. This also means that more of the eaten fat and carbohydrates will be digested faster and excreted before your body can absorb too much of it. At least that’s what Nutratech claim. Secondly, better metabolism directly translates to higher energy levels. This is very crucial particularly if you are battling your weight from multiple grounds including physical exercises and gym sessions.
How does Orlistol do all this?
To answer this questions, you have to look at the ingredients used and the scientific evidence backing their claims. Nutratech manufacture Orlistol using some decent elements, which is a good thing, but unfortunately, all the compounds are covered under a single 725mg proprietary blend. The ingredients used include:
Chitosan is a compound obtained from shellfish and other marine animals. It is said to contain a wide variety of health benefits including weight loss. In Orlistol , Nutratech claims that Chitosan helps to inhibit the absorption of fat in the body. They explain that this compound when ingested attaches to the fat molecules in the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, these fat molecules won’t be broken down making it impossible for your body to absorb them. This ends up in the excretion of the fat thus preventing you from gaining any unnecessary fat.
Several clinical trials have been done to ascertain its efficacy. Some of these have come back with positive results showing that it helps to lower the amount of fat retained in the body. Majority of these studies, however, showed that for Chitosan to work optimally, it has to be used alongside a calorie-restricted plan otherwise its users won’t notice any changes.
- Phaseo Vulgaris
This herb also referred to as Kidney bean pod is believed to be capable of fighting diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. The herb allegedly delivers all these results by blocking the absorption of starch in the body. Phaseo Vulgaris blocks the activity of the primary enzyme responsible for the digestion of carbohydrates. The herb hence has some promising weight loss benefits, but the problem is it’s hugely under-researched. With the information available at the moment, it is difficult to conclusively say whether any of its benefits can be achieved and how much dosages will be needed to witness such results.
- Garcinia Cambogia
This popular fruit has been consumed for years now due to its numerous health benefits. The fruit contains Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which is thought to be effective in slowing down the production of fat in the body. This consequently decreases body fat with time resulting in a slimmer and more desirable look. HCA has also been linked with an increase in serotonin production in the brain. This hormone works incredibly in the suppression of appetite.
Studies done on animals have confirmed some of its benefits in weight loss, reducing appetite and slowing the production of fat from sugars. In humans, unfortunately, the results have been a bit conflicting. According to an article from LiveScience, humans that consumed this compound did not witness any significant weight loss difference when compared to another placebo group. We are probably going to need more research pieces to further confirm its potency in weight loss.
- California Buckthorn
California Buckthorn has been used as a traditional Native American medicine for decades. This shrub has been used to treat liver diseases and gallstone. Some people even claim it can be used in the treatment of various kinds of cancer! In weight loss products, California Buckthorn is mainly utilized due to its laxative properties. It is believed that it can flush the digestive system cleansing and improve its efficiency for faster and better digestion. This hence leads to better metabolism where excess fat in the body will be broken down, and energy levels increased to help you lose as much weight as possible. The shrub, therefore, does not have any direct influence on weight loss. It is simply a facilitator for other compounds to boost metabolism.
- Gymnema Sylvestre
This herb is included in Orlistol to tackle sugar cravings and overall appetite. The ingredient is said to prevent sugar cravings by blocking the receptors on your tongue. It then goes further to slow down the absorption of sugar in the intestines. With reduced urges of consuming sugar, you are likely to spend less time eating which will help you with your weight loss plan. The herb could be ideal for diabetic patients with overweight issues. It, however, doesn’t have lots of studies to support its efficacy and we also don’t know much about its potential side effects.
Other ingredients used in Orlistol include aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, and magnesium.

Potential side effects of using Orlistol
Orlistol is formulated using quite a lot of ingredients, and this increases the chances of its users to experience adverse effects. Since the supplement uses a proprietary blend, you also cannot know how much of a particular ingredient that reacts negatively with your body is in this product. A few of the potential effects that may arise include:
- Headaches, Dizziness, and Fatigue due to magnesium
- Bloating, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and flatulence caused by Phaseo Vulgaris an aloe vera
- Nausea and insomnia usually caused by Garcinia Cambogia
The potential side effects may be many, but not a lot of users have reported these problems.
Nutratech has not provided sufficient instruction on how Orlistol is to be used. The advisable dosage is one capsule per day, but there is no information to show us the appropriate time for taking the supplement or if it should be used on a full stomach or not.
Where can I buy Orlistol?
Orlistol is available on the manufacturer’s website and Amazon only. A bottle containing 60 capsules is going for $39.99. There is no information to suggest that this price could be discounted in case the supplement is bought in larger quantities.
Verdict on Orlistol
Nutratech has tried and included some notable ingredients good for weight loss. The fact that these are natural is also a good thing because natural compounds rarely cause serious complication to the body. If you take a finer look at the product, however, a few of the ingredients may raise eyebrows. This is because they are not well-researched while others seem to have contradicting results. The other problem is the fact that the entire product is made using a proprietary blend. This makes it hard to know whether the decent ingredients used are well-supplied to deliver the needed benefits. Furthermore, most of us prefer knowing how much of each compound is going to our bodies. For these reasons, looking for a product with more scientific details and figures on its ingredients may be preferable than this supplement.
